Foreigners invested a record 26.4 bln KGS in securities of Kyrgyz companies

Foreign investments in corporate securities of Kyrgyzstan increased sharply in 2023, reaching 26.4 billion KGS, according to the Financial Supervision Department.

This is 21.7 times more than in 2022, when foreign investors placed only 1.2 billion KGS in domestic securities.

Most of these foreign investments - a total of 19.9 billion KGS - came from countries outside the immediate region. At the same time, investments from neighboring countries amounted to 6.5 billion.

Notably, capital from neighboring countries grew at an impressive rate, increasing 44.6 times from 146.3 million KGS in 2022. Investments from more distant states also grew significantly, 18.5 times from 1.07 bln KGS.

This year was a historic high for the KR in terms of foreign investment in corporate securities. For comparison, the previous peak in 2018 barely exceeded 5 bln KGS.

The noticeable growth of foreign investors' interest in the securities market of our republic continued in 2024. In the first eight months, foreign investors have already invested 17.3 billion KGS in Kyrgyzstan's securities. The gap between investments from far and near abroad has significantly narrowed: 9.5 billion and 7.7 billion soms respectively.

It is worth mentioning that as of December 31 last year, only 3.5 thousand issues of securities of Kyrgyz issuers were registered in the Unified State Register of Securities in the Kyrgyz Republic. The total issue volume was estimated at 670 billion 473.55 million KGS, including shares and bonds. And the latter occupied only 1.28% of the total volume (8 billion 585.63 million soms), while shares accounted for 79.59%, or their issue was estimated at 533 billion 650.32 million soms.

Of these, in 2023, FinNadzor registered only 175 issues of securities, with the amount exceeding 200 billion KGS (207.4 billion KGS). Thus, last year's securities issue volume exceeded the 2022 figure by 177.1 bln KGS, or 6.85 times.
