FINCA's principles are based on the idea of group lending, which allowed low-income people to obtain unsecured loans at affordable interest rates, enabling them to start their own businesses.
Today, FINCA International operates in 20 countries around the world, serving over 2.7 million people. FINCA is headquartered in Washington, DC.
FINCA started its operations in Kyrgyzstan in 1995 as a lending program for low-income entrepreneurs, mostly women. In 2001, the number of FINCA clients reached 20,000. The loan portfolio amounted to $3,272,782. FINCA's office network covers the whole country.
In 2005, FINCA Kyrgyzstan celebrates its tenth anniversary. In the same year, FINCA became a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Kyrgyz Republic. FINCA initiated the formation of the Association of Microfinance Organizations (AMFO).
In 2009, the number of active borrowers of the microcredit company reaches 100 thousand active clients. In 2012 FINCA in Kyrgyzstan launches a project to improve financial literacy of the population. Over the years, financial literacy trainers have conducted 2,438 trainings and trained 51,574 people. FINCA participates in Global Money Week, conducts trainings for schoolchildren and students and prepares a training manual for students.
In March 2015, FINCA Microcredit Company CJSC received a full banking license from the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, which allows it to conduct operations without restrictions, as well as a license to conduct operations in foreign currency. Since March 3, CJSC “FINCA Bank” was included in the register of commercial banks of the NBKR.
In 2020, FINCA Bank CJSC celebrates its 25th anniversary of operations in Kyrgyzstan.
