The Committee on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development of the Kyrgyz Parliament held an off-site meeting in the Kara-Suu district of the Osh region.

Deputies led by committee chairman Amankan Kenzhebaev familiarised themselves with the condition of the Papansky reservoir and the Laglan canal in the village of Boru, Papansky aiyl okmotu.

According to representatives of local government bodies, the technical condition of this canal is unsatisfactory. Every year, the canal's structures are damaged by mudslides. Mechanical cleaning is being carried out, but despite this, the canal's capacity has decreased. As part of preparations for the 2025 growing season, 1 million 185 thousand KGS have been allocated from the republican budget for mechanical cleaning and the construction of a drainage structure.

Deputy Nurbek Alimbekov noted the need to reconstruct the canal and its structures, noting that the project will require 3 million KGS for preparation and 2 billion KGS for reconstruction.

«Due to the growing population in the region, the issue of water supply is acute», — the deputy said.

During the field meeting, the deputies also met with residents of the Kara-Sui district and listened to their requests. Local residents asked for the Otuz-Adyr and Sava canals to be repaired and the problem with irrigation water to be solved. They also raised the issue of land plots and a number of questions regarding Resolution No. 309.

Committee Chairman Amankan Kenzhebaev provided detailed explanations on land policy, noting that if small farms were to unite into cooperatives, it would be convenient to produce and export agricultural products. The meeting also discussed socio-economic issues such as the reconstruction of internal roads and land transformation.
