EAEU Agricultural Council Discusses Achievements and Future Plans

On November 15, in Yerevan, the Council on Agricultural Policy of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) convened to discuss the development dynamics of the member states' agro-industrial complexes. The meeting was attended by the heads of authorized bodies from EAEU countries and the Minister for Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Goar Barseghyan.

Participants reviewed promising directions for state support of the EAEU agro-industrial complex.

"Key measures for state support of agriculture in the member states include preferential loans, budget compensation for part of farmers’ investment costs, grants, and direct payments for the production of priority agricultural products. It is essential to carefully approach the mechanisms and forms of administration for such support to improve its effectiveness. Each member state has developed practices worth considering for potential scaling within the Union," emphasized Goar Barseghyan.

The attendees supported the initiative to hold annual field seminars on state support to exchange experiences.

Ministers examined approaches to improving the forecasting systems for agro-industrial complexes, aiming to ensure the sustainable development of the internal market with essential agricultural goods and food products.

They also discussed the preparation of an action plan for implementing the Declaration on Further Development of Economic Processes within the EAEU until 2030 and the "Eurasian Economic Path" framework for the period until 2045 concerning the agro-industrial complex.

The council members agreed to expedite work on harmonizing positions to finalize a draft agreement on the recognition of organic products within the EAEU.

An agreement was reached to deepen cooperation aimed at balancing the common agricultural market of the Union while taking into account national interests and integration objectives.

Goar Barseghyan also participated in a meeting between Armenia's Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the EEC Council, Mher Grigoryan, and Russia's Minister of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, to discuss promising directions for the development of the agro-industrial complex, including within the EAEU framework.
