Mutual comparative assessment of the accreditation body of Armenia starts

The group on mutual comparative assessment of the accreditation body of Armenia will start its work at the end of this year. This issue was discussed at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Accreditation Bodies of the EEC countries, which was held on 30 September in Yerevan within the Eurasian Economic Forum.

Valentin Tataritsky, Minister of Technical Regulation of the Eurasian Economic Commission, took part in the meeting. The Council members also agreed on the implementation of recommendations on the results of mutual comparative assessment of the Kyrgyz Accreditation Centre under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce.

The Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union provides for mutual comparative assessments of accreditation bodies. Following the decision of the EEC Council of 19 August 2022, the Procedure for Mutual Comparative Assessments by Accreditation Bodies of Member States was approved.

This procedure defines the rules for conducting such assessments, the results of which will make it possible to establish further steps to harmonise the legislation of the EAEU member states to achieve equivalence of the applied procedures.

The Council of Heads of National Accreditation Bodies, established by the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, implements the mechanisms of such assessments and develops plans and ways of solving problems in the field of accreditation.

"One of the most important mechanisms for ensuring product safety in the Union market and removing barriers to mutual trade is the effective activity of accreditation bodies designed to confirm and guarantee the competence of conformity assessment bodies. Mutual comparative assessments are an effective tool for converging accreditation procedures and ensuring confidence in the results of conformity assessment bodies‘ activities,’ Valentin Tataritsky noted.

In addition, the meeting participants considered the prospects of developing a draft recommendation of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission on common approaches to the research methods' validation, testing and measurement of products. This is stipulated by the decision of the EEC Council of 18 October 2016, which regulates the procedure for developing lists of standards for the application and implementation of the requirements of the EAEU technical regulations.

The Council of Heads of Accreditation Bodies of the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union was established by the decision of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council dd 14 May 2018 as a subsidiary body of the association for the development of accreditation in the field of technical regulation within the framework of the implementation of the EAEU Treaty. In 2024, the Council is chaired by Armenia, represented by the state non-profit organization “National Accreditation Body” of the Ministry of Economy of the Republic.
