    The NBKR is among the leaders in gold purchases at the end of 2024

    The National Bank of Kyrgyzstan at the end of the fourth quarter of 2024 was among the leaders in terms of purchased gold. Such data is provided by the World Gold Council (WGC).

    According to the WGC report, the largest buyers of gold among central banks during this period were the regulators of Poland, India, China, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Together they purchased 87.19 tons of the precious metal, of which 12.17 tons were purchased by the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan.

    As a result, by the end of 2024, Kyrgyzstan's gold and foreign exchange reserves amounted to 38.13 tons of gold. This is 1.8 times more than in December 2023, when the reserves contained 21.6 tons of gold.

    In addition to the largest buyers, the World Gold Council also presented data on the countries that sold gold. In the reporting period, the central banks of Singapore, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Mexico and Brazil sold a total of more than 9.7 tons.
