Almost 4,000 hectares of land in the Republic are leased for renewables

During July-December 2024, the Green Energy Fund concluded 42 agreements with investors for the lease of plots covering 3,964 hectares. These lands are intended for renewable energy projects: 31 plots are for small hydropower plants with a total capacity of 351.97 MW, and 11 plots are for solar power plants with a capacity of 1,634.5 MW. For six months, the lease revenues totalled 113 million KGS, while for the whole of 2023 they were equal to zero.

During this period, the tender commission of the Fund held 18 meetings, having considered 107 lots. To date, the Fund has 68 plots with a total area of 18,649 hectares on its balance sheet, of which almost 15,000 hectares are ready for transfer to investors. According to Kundus Kyrbasheva, head of the Fund, significant progress has been made through reforms and attracting investors on a competitive basis.

In addition, the Fund has drafted a Cabinet of Ministers resolution on the guaranteed purchase of electricity from renewable energy facilities. This step, according to Kyrbasheva, should stimulate the implementation of ‘green’ projects. The document has already been submitted to the Energy Ministry for co-ordination and further approval.
