According to the data for November 2024 (the latest available data), out of 35 basic food products, prices for 31 items in the Armenian capital are higher than in Moscow, which was previously considered the leader in terms of the cost of living in the EEU.
Only for four products the prices in Yerevan are lower than in Moscow: cooked sausage of the first grade is cheaper by $0.25 per kilogram, hard cheese - by $3.72, tomatoes - by $0.18, and apples - by $0.08.
Comparison of prices between Yerevan and Bishkek shows even stronger differences. The exception is hard cheese, which is 9.38% more expensive in Bishkek. For other products Bishkek prices are significantly lower. The most noticeable difference is observed for sugar (10.7 times cheaper in Bishkek, $0.95 per kilogram), buckwheat (3.2 times cheaper, $0.91) and butter (2.9 times cheaper, $5.51 per kilogram).
However, the level of income explains the pricing policy. According to the Eurasian Economic Commission, the average salary in Bishkek for January-September 2024 was $501, which is almost 38% less than in Yerevan, where the figure is $808.
