The head of the Kyrgyz delegation, Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration Ravshan Sabirov spoke at the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women, presenting the country's achievements in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment.
In his speech, the Minister emphasised that Kyrgyzstan ranks 45th in the global ranking of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a special focus on Goal No. 5 - gender equality. Thanks to this, more than half of the country's population actively participates in its socio-economic development.
One of the key areas of government policy is to combat violence against women, support women's entrepreneurship and increase women's economic opportunities. In this context, the Minister noted that the President's demand for zero tolerance of violence against women is being implemented. This policy contributes to the adoption of systematic measures to protect women's rights and create favourable conditions for their self-fulfilment.
Kyrgyzstan was the first country to ratify the ILO Convention on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the Workplace. In addition, 40 per cent of entrepreneurs in the country were women, for whom a special State support programme was being implemented.
In the Kyrgyz Parliament, 22 per cent of deputies were women, and in local councils the figure reached 42 per cent. Also in 2025, a new version of the Labour Code was adopted, lifting bans on certain professions for women.
«We are not just declaring women's rights, our country is introducing real reforms, creating conditions for their equal participation in society», — the minister emphasised.
Kyrgyzstan will continue to actively participate in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and the Beijing+30 Platform for Action, remaining committed to the principles of gender equality and the protection of women's rights.
