Kyrgyzstan and Lesotho discussed cooperation on the sidelines of the Global Mining Dialogue

Today, within the framework of the Global Mining Dialogue for Sustainable Development forum, Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baisalov met with Deputy Prime Minister Ntomenj Madzara of the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Edil Baysalov thanked Lesotho for participating in the event and emphasised that Kyrgyzstan, as a mountainous country, attaches particular importance to issues of sustainable development, adaptation to climate change and access to basic services in hard-to-reach regions. He invited Lesotho to join the implementation of the Five-Year Development Plan for Mountain Regions and the Bishkek+25 summit, which will be held in 2027.

The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of economy, agriculture, energy and logistics. Baisalov also announced Kyrgyzstan's plans to expand its diplomatic presence on the African continent, in particular the opening of a Kyrgyz embassy in Ethiopia, and expressed hope for Lesotho's support in obtaining observer status with the African Union.
The candidacy of Kyrgyzstan for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2027–2028 was also discussed.

During the meeting, both sides expressed interest in strengthening their partnership and developing friendly relations.
