The head of the Cabinet of Ministers gave a number of instructions on the issues of reforming the education system

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliyev emphasised the need for urgent measures to reform the education system and improve the quality of education. He made this statement at a meeting of the board of the Presidential Administration, where key issues of the education sector were discussed.

Reports on university activity, 12-year education, staff shortages and problems with licensing and accreditation of higher education institutions were considered.

President Sadyr Zhaparov pays special attention to the education sector, Kasymaliyev said. Since 2022, six universities have been given special status and the Ministry of Education and Science is supporting the policy of schools to switch to 12-year education. During the collegium, a number of instructions were given to the relevant state bodies.

The Ministry of Education should introduce a temporary moratorium on the licensing of new private universities, developing a single state platform for licensing. It was instructed to review accreditation decisions, improve procedures, optimise standards and consider tougher sanctions for accreditation agencies. It is important to introduce digital control mechanisms, take disciplinary action against ineffective staff and investigate the Ministry of Education.

The Ministry of Health should harmonise regulations with international standards and strengthen quality control of clinical bases.

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce will simplify licensing, raise standards and create anti-corruption mechanisms in legislation.
