Uzbeks and Tajikistanis are more willing to donate than Kyrgyzs

Kyrgyzstan's position in the global ranking of charity The World Giving Index for 2024 has significantly decreased. While last year the country ranked 34th, it has now moved to 64th out of 142 countries.

Kyrgyzstan scored 42 points out of a possible 100. That score is lower than Russia (35th), Uzbekistan (45th) and Tajikistan (62nd), but well ahead of Kazakhstan (113th) and Turkey (122nd).

The ranking measures the extent to which society is willing to help in times of need: donate money, volunteer or simply support their neighbours. The methodology is based on surveys assessing the level of involvement of citizens in charity.

Interestingly, the leaders of the rating are often not the richest countries. For example, in 2024, Indonesia, Kenya, Singapore, Gambia and Nigeria are among the top five, demonstrating that true generosity does not always depend on the level of income.
