Kyrgyzstan to spend 6.7 bln KGS less on servicing state debt in 2024

In 2024, Kyrgyzstan reduced expenditures on servicing the public debt by 6.7 bln KGS. Instead of the expected 66.9 billion KGS, 60.2 billion KGS was allocated for this purpose, which was the result of budget revision and a number of economic factors.

Decrease in the revised expenditures for external debt service in 2024 compared to the initial forecast is explained by several factors: a decrease in revenues under the program of state investments, changes in the terms of debt repayment with the German Development Bank KfW and exchange rate fluctuations.

Thus, in the draft revised budget for 2024, expenditures on servicing the state external debt amounted to 37.9 billion KGS (-5 billion KGS), of which 6.5 billion KGS is interest and 31.3 billion KGS is the principal amount of debt. These figures are largely lower than originally budgeted.

There have also been changes in servicing the domestic debt: instead of the planned 23.9 billion KGS, 22.3 billion KGS have been allocated for this purpose. Of these, 11.6 billion KGS will be used to pay interest and 10.6 billion KGS - the principal amount of debt on government securities.

To add, at the end of September 2024, the public debt amounted to $6.6 billion.
