    Compensation for Chernobyl victims increased: the state strengthens support for accident liquidators and their families

    As part of a commemorative event marking the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, First Deputy Minister of Labor, Social Security, and Migration Aliza Soltonbekova announced a significant increase in monthly payments to participants in the disaster cleanup and their families.

    According to a decree issued by Sadyr Zhaparov on April 18, 2025, the following compensation amounts have been increased as of January 1 of this year:

    • Disabled persons and persons suffering from radiation sickness — from 7,000 to 10,000 KGS;
    • Liquidators from 1986–1987 — from 2,500 to 3,500 KGS;
    • Liquidators of 1988–1989 — from 1,000 to 2,000 KGS;
    • Families of deceased and disabled persons — from 1,000 to 1,500 KGS;

    • Children of liquidators under the age of 18 — from 1,000 to 1,500 KGS.

    Aliza Soltonbekova emphasized that 1,943 people — participants in the liquidation and members of their families — are already receiving these payments.

    “This decision reflects the state's recognition of the liquidators' feat and serves to strengthen social justice,” she said.

    The event was also attended by Bishkek Deputy Mayor Jamalbek Yrsaliyev, who noted the liquidators' contribution to preventing a large-scale disaster.

    There are 267 victims registered in Bishkek, including 79 widows, 171 disabled persons, and 17 liquidators. In addition, as part of the administrative-territorial reform, 37 more people from new territories have been registered.

    In 2025, 1.73 million KGS were allocated from the Bishkek budget to support Chernobyl victims. The money was distributed in the amount of 5,000 KGS to disabled persons and liquidators, and 10,000 KGS to widows of liquidators.
