04/09/2025, 10:02In May, Kyrgyz citizens will have a whole series of days off - from 1 to 4 and from 6 to 9 May inclusive. The country celebrates Constitution Day on 5 May and Victory Day on 9 May. These dates are officially recognised as non-working days in accordance with Article 66 of the Labour Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
But not everyone will be able to rest. The Ministry of Labour reminded: work on holidays is possible only in exceptional cases - when it is impossible to stop production (energy, transport, utilities), in emergency situations, as well as in areas that require round-the-clock service to the population, including medicine, public transport and retail trade (if allowed to work). Artists, sportsmen and journalists can also work - but only under special regulations.
Work on public holidays can only be done with written consent. For pregnant women and workers with disabilities, a medical certificate of absence of contraindications is mandatory.
According to Article 67 of the Labour Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, work on public holidays is paid at double rate. The second option is an additional day off by agreement with the employee.
Important information for those who go on holiday. Holidays from 1 to 9 May are not included in the holiday and are not paid. That is, if the holiday starts on 10 April, it will not end on 7 May - another 9 days will be added to it, and it will actually end on 16 May (inclusive).
