The role of green agriculture in reducing carbon footprint discussed in the EEC

The round table «Green Horizons: Sustainable Development of Agriculture in the Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union» was held at the Eurasian Economic Commission under the chairmanship of Naira Karepetian, Director of the EEC Agro-Industrial Policy Department.

The participants of the event discussed approaches to the analysis and modelling of the consequences of the introduction of carbon tax in agriculture in the EAEU countries, the role of green agriculture in reducing the carbon footprint, the prospects of inter-country cooperation of organic producers, the regulation of greenhouse gas emissions from the use of fertilisers and a number of other issues.

As Naira Karepetian noted in her speech, sustainable development of the agro-industrial complex is becoming more and more relevant in the modern world, as agriculture is directly related to the use of natural resources and has a significant impact on the environment.
‘To mitigate the consequences in the EAEU, transformations in the agricultural and food systems based on concerted actions and adaptation of the industry to the current realities are needed,’ emphasised the Director of the EEC Agro-Industrial Policy Department.
