    Ibraev invited USAID to participate in the development of feasibility studies for 10 small hydropower plants

    On November 20, Kyrgyz Energy Minister Taalaibek Ibraev met with Sarah Wirth, the newly appointed USAID Director in the country. The Minister congratulated Ms. Werth on her appointment and expressed gratitude for USAID's longstanding support for the development of the country's energy sector.

    Talaaibek Ibraev proposed a number of issues to Sarah Werth to deepen further cooperation in the energy sector. He invited on-site familiarization with the hydroelectric units of the Toktogul HPP, which are under reconstruction.

    The Minister also made a proposal to develop feasibility studies of 10 small HPPs, send Kyrgyz power engineers to Hungary to exchange experience. In addition, the Minister gave information about the ongoing work on green energy and said that he is ready to cooperate in this area.

    In turn, Sarah Werth said that in the near future an international strategy will be developed and will require specific proposals from the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic. At the same time, she noted that after accepting the Minister's proposals and joint discussion with relevant USAID leaders, a clear answer will be given.
