01/01/2025, 18:18In 2024, the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan conducted currency interventions totaling $675.65 mln, which allowed to ensure the stability of the national currency.
The regulator used these funds to sell the dollar at interbank trading to reduce pressure on the som and support its exchange rate.
The amount spent on interventions in 2024 was $19.9 mln more than sales in 2023. At that time, the National Bank sold $655.7 million in currency trading, while in 2022 the figure was $419.9 million.
In 2024, the regulator conducted 13 interventions to sell dollars, which is one operation less than in 2023. However, in contrast to the previous year, the NB KR also actively bought dollars at auctions. Within 13 reverse interventions, it purchased $369.85 million.
As a result, as of December 31, 2024, the KGS appreciated against the US dollar by 2.34%, from 89.0853 KGS per dollar to 87 KGS.
