Construction of key facilities for the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway has begun in Kyrgyzstan

Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev took part in the ceremony marking the start of construction of a tunnel on the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan international railway line. The event was held as part of a working trip to the Jalal-Abad region.

The project was launched on the instructions of President Sadyr Zhaparov. As Torobaev noted, the new railway will become a strategic “bridge” between East and West. According to him, the implementation of the project will create thousands of jobs and give impetus to the development of trade, logistics, and industry.

At the ceremony, representatives of China, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan expressed confidence in the success of the project, calling the road a symbol of unity and progress.

The 12-kilometer tunnel under construction will connect the Suzak district of the Jalal-Abad region with the Toguz-Torou district of the Naryn region. Two more large tunnels are also planned in these regions.

In total, more than 300 kilometers of railway will pass through Kyrgyzstan. The cost of construction is estimated at $4.7 billion. Over 20,000 people will be involved in the project.

The work promises to be difficult: the project involves the construction of 46 bridges with a total length of 120 kilometers and 27 tunnels. Thus, about 40% of the entire route will consist of engineering structures.

It should be recalled that the groundbreaking ceremony for the railway took place on December 27, 2024. At that time, the leaders of Kyrgyzstan, China, and Uzbekistan emphasized the strategic importance of this initiative for the region.
