Naryn region became the absolute leader in industrial growth in the country

In the first two months of the year, industrial production in the Naryn region increased significantly - almost 2.5 times compared to the same period last year. If in January-February 2024, the region's enterprises produced goods worth KGS 952 million, this year - already worth KGS 2 billion 419 million.

This is the highest growth among all regions of Kyrgyzstan. For comparison: the average growth in the country was about 15%, in Chui Oblast - almost 25%, and in Bishkek - 9%. Against this background, the Naryn Oblast demonstrated growth of 150% at once.
For a region traditionally dominated by agriculture, this is a significant achievement.

    What gave such growth?

The main reason is the development of the manufacturing industry. During the year its volumes increased 8 times. Metal production has grown especially sharply: before it was almost unaccounted for, but now it accounts for more than a billion KGS.

According to ‘Akchabar’, production has increased most of all in Naryn district - 52 times. This is most likely due to the work of the Kyrgyz-Chinese Zhong Ji Mining Company, which is represented in this district. Last year the company paid more than 125 million KGS in taxes alone.

Electricity production has also increased - by almost 37%. This may be due to the launch of new hydroelectric power plants or modernisation of old ones. Now, for example, the Kulanak HPP in Ak-Tali district is under construction, and the upgraded At-Bashy HPP in At-Bashy district has started operating. Last year it generated more than 200 million kilowatt-hours - enough to cover a quarter of the oblast's electricity needs.

The mineral extraction sector has also increased - almost twofold. First of all, due to the increased production of brown coal and lignite.

Thus, it can be argued that the growth of industrial production in Naryn Oblast is not only the merit of the activation of the extractive and manufacturing sectors, but also evidence that the region, traditionally focused on agriculture, is successfully diversifying its economy.
